Weddings, Akshaya Tritiya and Dhanteras are the main buying periods in Indore. A bazaar with many small shops in one place makes comparison easy. Ask each jeweller for the same four things, namely the purity, the net weight, the rate used and the making charge, and then compare the totals. Pieces of the same weight and design can cost quite different amounts because of the making charge.
Silver items such as anklets, coins, utensils and puja articles are widely sold in the city. The rate is shown per gram and per kilogram. Bars and coins are priced close to the silver rate, while jewellery adds a making charge on top.
