Kundan, meenakari (enamel) and polki pieces are central to Rajasthani jewellery, and they are made with stones, enamel and lac that add weight and cost. Ask for the bill to show the gold, the stones and the making charge as separate lines, so you can see what each part costs. Akshaya Tritiya, known locally as Akha Teej, is one of the most important days for gold and weddings in Rajasthan, and Teej, Gangaur and Dhanteras also bring buyers.
Rajasthan has a strong tradition of silver, from bridal anklets to oxidised and tribal-style jewellery. The rate is shown per gram and per kilogram. Oxidised pieces are often 925 or lower in purity, so ask for the purity mark and avoid paying 999 prices for them.

Akha Teej is another name for Akshaya Tritiya, a day considered auspicious for buying gold and for weddings. Demand is high on that day, so shops are crowded.
Gold is valued by purity and weight. Stones are valued separately, if at all, and usually need a certificate to get a fair price, so keep the paperwork from the time of purchase.
